Square Dancing 36
In this image a few sets of experienced square dancing couples swing around the floor of a dance hall.
Ruohomaa shoots from a slightly elevated angle to take in the dynamics and pattern of the dance.
In this shot one couple is featured as their figures read light against the darker background. She leans, in practiced counterbalance to her partner's body. Their arm position forms a strong horizontal; it also allows the guy to lift and quickly twist his feet.
In this improvised dance hall Kosti finds his preferred subject matter: the folkways of ordinary people at work and, as here, at play.
