A group of professionally-dressed men perform what is presumably a breathing exercise during a "speech class", as indicated by the photo assignment Kosti was shooting. The men have unbuttoned their suit jackets and, with their finger tips, feel their lower rib cages expand and contract as they smile in their self consciousness and focus on the instructor.
It is interesting to note the men's clothing in this setting, including some three-piece suits, reflecting the cultural expectation of dressing professionally in the 1950s.
