ANNIE C. MAGUIRE
The bark ANNIE C. MAGUIRE, (ex. GOLDEN STATE), built in New York in 1853 came to grief on Christmas Eve 1886, as she was wrecked within shouting (and rescue) distance of Portland Head Lighthouse at Cape Elizabeth, Maine. The vessel is broadside on rocks immediately below the lighthouse. The cause of the wreck is puzzling since visibility was not a problem. Members of the crew reported they plainly saw Portland Light before the disaster.
