The Excursion Steamboat WARWICK at the S. L. Pier at Stapleton, Staten Island, New York

The excursion steamboat WARWICK at the S. L. pier at Stapleton, Staten Island, New York. Stapleton is a neighborhood in northeastern Staten Island in New York City. It is located along the waterfront of Upper New York Bay. The WARWICK is a sidewheeler powered by a walking beam engine, the walking beam can be seen protruding from the top of the steamboat.

The rotative beam (walking beam) engine is a later design of beam engine where the connecting rod drives a flywheel, by means of a crank (or, historically, by means of a sun and planet gear). These beam engines could be used to directly power the line-shafting in a mill. They also could be used to power steam ships.
