Skating] In 1949, Leo Luckey refurbished the old Eastern Steamship Wharf to the public as a roller skating rink and entertainment center advertising it as "Maine's Most Beautiful Rink". "The Pier" offered roller skating on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays as well as dancing on Saturday nights. Interestingly the center offered both Coca-Cola products and Pepsi-Cola products as well as Sealtest Ice Cream. In 1957 the aging buildings on the wharf partially collapses and fell into the bay. The wharf was intentionally burned in 1959 to prevent any future accidents. Leo (d. 1964) & Geneva (d. 1982) Luckey also owned and operated the Gull Motel and the Ocean View Motel on the east side of Belfast.
