"The Field House- Built 1807- Primrose Hill, Belfast, Maine A230-a" Buildings, Field House The Bohan P. Field House was built in 1807 It is of the Federal style with a hip roof, classic entrance with fan window and pilasters. Early records describe terraced gardens with a spectacular view of the Passagassawakeag River and Penobscot Bay beyond. The house remained in the Field family for 170 years. Mr. Field, born in Massachusetts in 1775, came to Belfast in 1801 with five other early settlers. He established Belfast's first law practice and became a town leader. Field, was the first Chief Justice of the Court of Sessions. At a meeting of seamen and other inhabitants, held Sept. 25, 1820, The Auxiliary Marine Bible Society" of Belfast and vicinity was formed. A contribution of seventy-five cents constituted yearly membership; five dollars, life membership. The first officers included Bohan P. Field as recording secretary.
