The house on the right is located at the corner of Peach Street and was, in the mid 19th century, the home of Daniel Faunce. The house on the left (partially obscured by trees) was the Coombs Funeral Home until the retirement of Horace Coombs in 1969. Horace was the son of Charles R. Coombs, ship captain and one time mayor of Belfast. Charles R. Coombs was born in Belfast, March 20, 1862, the son of Captain Robert Hudson Coombs and Harriet Pendleton Coombs. When Captain Coombs retired from going to sea, he purchased a furniture and undertaking business and operated it as R. H. Coombs & Son, in partnership with Charles. Charles took over the business after his father’s death and concentrated on the funeral home business. The original location was on lower Main Street. Note the British Flag on display at the front of the Faunce house.
