Res. D. Jewett Noyes, Stonington, Me. 17t.
"Res. D. Jewett Noyes, Stonington, Me. 17t." Image shows the Main Street home of Stonington pharmacist D. Jewett Noyes, and part of the neighboring property. Noyes' modest mid-19th century house and front lawn sit well back from the commercial street in the heart of the business district-- likely reflecting the pattern of development preceding the granite quarrying boom. The large, clapboarded side of Noyes' pharmacy, built in 1910, is at the left. It is mounted with large, printed advertising signs visible from the sidewalk, reading "The Rexall Store/ Drink Coca Cola/Delicious and Refreshing, Whitman's Chocolates-Famous Since 1842", and "General Ice Cream Corporation/'Fro-Joy Ice Cream'/Youth Units". Beyond the wooden slat fence andCrossing the gass lawn to Noyes' house is a wooden walkway and steps, a feature characteristic of 19th century Maine coast towns. Noyes' house has a front porch with a wood spindle valance, and simple chairs and neatly arranged pots of flowers. To the right, beyond a row of carefully pruned trees is a neighboring house with a very similar front porch and outbuildings behind.
