K. of P. Hall, Stonington Me. 28a.
"K. of P. Hall, Stonington Me. 28a." Image shows several mid and later 19th century buildings on the north side of Main Street in the business district of Stonington. An early 19th century house is partially visible at the far right. The grand Dr. B. Lake Noyes mansion, built in 1906, is visible is visible at the far left. Next is a two-story frame building with a commercial storefront and signs. This was, in part, the pharmacy of Dr. Noye's brother, D. Jewett Noyes; a sign reading "Shoes" suggests footwear as well. A woman in a long, dark dress passes in a blur in front of the mansard-roofed building next door; this was a boarding house known as the "Sunset House." It was likely the home of many workers in the fishing and granite industries. The darker building bears a sign indicating it was used partly as the Knights of Pythian Hall (probably upstairs); another sign suggests a laundry operated on the ground floor. Across the street a sign reading "Billiards and Pool" hangs from a shopfront. A new sidewalk runs along the north side of the unpaved street in front of granite ledges that have been cut back to form a wall. Noyes' new pharmacy building would soon be constructed on the site at the right.
