View of Stonington Me. 49.

"View of Stonington Me. 49." Image from Thurlow's Hill looking south down a steep, unpaved residential street with Green Head in the distance. The buildings at the bottom of the hill at Main Street obscure the view of the harbor, however its presence is marked by the raked mast at dead center. Two groups of women and girls make their way up the hill on the wooden sidewalk. Granite, its quarrying and use in stone foundations, is ever present in these ledge-bound street scenes of Stonington. At the time the photo was taken, the house at the far right with the Mansard roof was owned by Calvin Stinson, a sardine packer. [n.f.
