Stonington Harbor - West - Maine 38. "Eaton's"

"Stonington Harbor - West - Maine 38. "Eaton's"" Image of a working Maine waterfront at the turn of the 20th century. A two-masted schooner lies at the pier near a large sign advertising "Gasoline", reflecting the transition from wind-powered to motorized shipping. "The western end of the inner harbor at Stonington shows the houses on Green Head, Friendship sloops with plumb stems, and three peapods. The sloops were built on an island off Friendship, [Me.] and were used by lobstermen to haul their traps. The peapods were easy-rowing, double-ended tenders used to get from the shore out to the moored sloops." [n.f.
