Greeting Mac Creedy's Camp Esmerelda, Stockton, Maine.
"Greeting Mac Creedy's Camp Esmerelda, Stockton, Maine. " Mac Creedy's Camp Esmerelda, Formally Passenger Train Car, Lawn Mr. MacCready was a Bangor and Aroostook Railroad official. Around 1920 he bought an 1880’s Pullman car – owned by an opera star – and had a rail siding built at the harbor end of Maple Street. The car was set on location and the siding was removed. There is a house standing today on this site. He named his cottage “Whistlestop”. I have been in this cottage as a child. It was demolished about 1960 and Carlisle Neff built the house now standing. In the 1990’s David Wilson and Katherine Christie ran a B @ B there named Whistlestop. I believe the Stockton Historical Society has additional information including the opera star’s name. -- Daniel Harrison 2017
