Havilah Hawkins Peapod
Peapod (13' 6") built by Havilah Hawkins in Brooksville, ME in 1963. Blue-painted peapod mast step and partners; stanctions for standup rowing. Frame from rise to riser in between frames amidships. Havilah Hawkins settled in Sedgewick in 1950 as a schooner captain sailing the STEPHEN TABER. In 1962 he had the MARY DAY built. Shortly after moving to Sedgewick, about 1954, he started a peapod building business developing his lines from a lapstrake boat he found over on Deer Isle. He built about 47 of them using a cement mold as a production tool. He ceased in 1963 after his shop in Brooksville burned. He sold his mold and design to Jimmy Steele. This is the Hawkins pod kept by the family.
