Textile, clothing: Chinese shoe, woman's, red and light blue
5" shoes made in China. The shoes are very small with a wood sole, made for a woman with bound feet. Decorated with a floral design in red, light blue, and white. #1 in a pair. The custom of binding feet for Chinese women horrified American sensibilities. Isabel Frame, who grew up in Searsport in the 1920s and whose father was superintendent of the Coal Pockets, received these shoes during a missionary in China. Textile, clothing: Chinese shoe, woman's, red and light blue #1 shoe of a pair of Chines women's shoes. Red and light blue, wood sole for very small for bound feet. Brought back by a missionary, given to Miss Isabel Frame. Not found 8/02 BS. Found 9/03 epm
