Friendship catboat LITTLE COTLEY
16'1"L x 5'8" beam wooden Friendship Catboat named "Little Cotley" after a daughter (Either Elizabeth or Margaret). Belonged to William Vogel, a professor at University of Cincinnati who summered in Friendship for 5 generations. One of the original fleet of Friendship catboats, over 50 years old. Notes say named after a daughter but not sure whose daughter. Built c. 1950 by Bob Lane in Friendship, ME as part of an apprenticeship program following the Korean War under the tutelage of Carleton Simmons. Catboat has white exterior and blue deck. Hardware is galvanized steel. Flat bottom is cross-planked with cedar, with oak stem, deck beams, transom, stern knees, deck coaming, keelson and five sawn frames. Half decked and gaff-rigged with a centerboard and rudder. Has an 18' spruce mast that supports approximately 130 square feet of sail. 30 Dec.2003, Call from Gary Lehy, Falmouth, Maine, summer place in Friendship, and has number of boats including a FC.
