Decked Sailing Canoe, Rushton Vesper Model

15' 6" L x 32" beam wood decked sailing canoe designed by R.W. Gibson and built by John Henry Rushton of Canton, NY c. 1915. Vesper model. The canoe has smooth plank construction and has a "Radix" patent nesting, fan style centerboard and drop blade style rudder. The canoe includes two sliding seats, paddle (newcat = 1992.6.1.2) and fitted wooden deck and cockpit covers (deck cover newcat = 1992.6.1.3; cockpit cover newcat = 1992.6.1.4). The sailing rig (rig newcat = 1992.6.1.5) is that of a Cat Ketch ("Improved Bailey Rig") with three mast steps through the deck. The boat was brought to Camden by Benjamin Lee the summer of 1915 for racing on Lake Megunticook and was sailed, briefly, on the lake. See file for bio details.
