Scrimshaw: ostrich egg depicting map of the world
Ostrich egg scrimshaw made in the 1870s. Scrimshaw engraved with a map of the world, a compass rose at the top, and a ship. Marked: "Whales harvested during 1873-1875" and "Whales harvested during 1875-1878." Ostrich eggs, and various other animal bones and shells, could be scrimshawed.
