Sea Chest: leather trunk w/ canvas cover, marked 19th Century antique leather trunk, patterned exterior with canvas cover stenciled with "A.A.S." from Starrett Collection of Mrs. Dorothy McMahan of Rockland, ME. Original source Family collection of Dorothy S. McMahan originally of Rockland. Trunk was purchased by donor at PMM 1996 fund raising auction. AAS is Anne Atherton Starrett, who was Dorothy S. McMahan's grandmother. She was born aboard the T.J. SOUTHARD in 1865. He father Henry Atherton Starrett was captain. Her mother Ellen Cutter Starrett sailed with the captain most of the time from 1863 to 1884.
