Textile, household: Handcrafted rug titled, "Sears Island" See information on the artist in the object file. Rug depicts several grey buildings (one is a house) and trees, surrounded by water with sailing ships in background. At bottom stitched into the water its say "Sears Island BEM" Artist said her mother, Gertrude Gordon, spent a summer on Sears Island when she was 12 or so. The scene of the rug is based on that time as remembered by her mother. Gordon has one painting in the museum's collection #1973.20 Rug is at least 10 years old in 2006 and probably older said Merry. She confirmed that she sewed the binding on herself to give extra support to the rug.
