Brig HARRY SMITH Logbooks
Two logbooks for the brig HARRY SMITH of Bangor, Maine, while sailing to the West Indies and South America under the command of Captain John H. Weeks of Brewer. Both are official records of the HARRY SMITH's voyages, including notes on weather, sail configurations, positions, and activities in port. One fishing voyage to the Grand Banks of Newfoundland is also recorded; for this, the log includes notes on fishing activities and the arrival of other schooners to the fishing grounds. The earlier log dates from 1875 to 1876, covering voyages between New York; Cap Hatien, Aux Cayes, and Jeromie in Haiti; Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic; Hoboken, New Jersey, Cambridge, Massachusetts; Lamoine, Maine; and Baracoa, Cuba; as well as a fishing voyage to the Grand Banks. The later volume, from 1879 and 1880, records multiple voyages between New York and Buenos Aires, as well as trips to Barbados and Cuba.
