Log Book: Journal of Voyages of the American Bark MOONLIGHT from Liverpool to Phila[delphia], Commanded by Charles Waterhouse.
Log book of Bark MOONLIGHT, passage from Liverpool to Philadelphia, and thence to Norfolk, Virginia. Last passage was from Norfolk toward Nieuwe Diep [Amsterdam], but the vessel never completed this last passage. Leaked badly & had to be abandoned. Captain and officers even helped the crew attend the pumps. Vessel abandoned in the Atlantic at approximately 41 degrees 5' North & 38 degrees 41' West. Officers, crew, and captain's wife and two children all taken off safely and brought aboard the barkentine ELENA which was en route Baltimore to Queenstown or Falmouth.
