Diary of a Quartermaster on Convoy Duty, 1918
Diary kept by a U.S. Navy quartermaster, likely Lyndhurst C. Mather, while on convoy duty during World War I. The diary covers a voyage from New York to Marseilles with detailed descriptions of daily events aboard ship and within the convoy, the author's hopes for training and promotion, and interactions with members of the crew. It also notes the news of the armistice ending World War I. The back of the volume contains notes on navigation and flag signals, likely part of the author's training. There are also a few sketches and inscriptions from the author's acquaintences.
