Helen Stokes Merrill Journal
Diary kept by Helen Stokes Merrill Bush documenting three vacations: a cruise on her sloop PEREGRINE from Tenants Harbor, Maine around Penobscot Bay in 1961; a trip to Jamaica in the winter of 1963; and a camping trip to Banff and the Canadian Rockies in the summer of 1963. Merrill made daily entries for each trip that describe in detail the day's activities, sights and places seen, and people that she encountered. The also describe methods of travel in the early 1960s, by airplane, car, sailboat, and horseback, from the perspective of an author who clearly enjoyed outdoor adventure.
