Ralph C. Johnson Store Daybook
Daybook for Ralph Cross Johnson's store in Belfast, Maine, for the first six months of the year 1812. The book lists purchases of a variety of foodstuffs and dry goods, including rum, brandy, gin, sugar, molasses, salt, tobacco, cotton, rye, corn, coffee, cotton, calico, glass, and tablewares, by named individuals in Belfast. A majority of the purchases are of alcohol. A few financial transactions, including small loans, money left in care for another customer, and small quanitites of goods shipped for sale in other towns, are also listed. The last three pages of the book contain an account for materials and work done on Johnson's new house in Belfast, built in 1812 and 1813.
