Journal of Lewis Dunn

Journal kept by Lewis Dunn while he was second mate of the bark JENNIE HARKNESS of Camden, Maine. The journal covers one complete voyage, from New York to Shanghai, Manila, and Iloilo, returning to Boston. Entries are brief, focusing on weather and the activites of the ship; they contain more detailed notes on maintenance and loading activites while in port. The volume also contains a brief account of a second voyage from Boston to Melbourne, Caleta Buena, and return, as well as Dunn's personal accounts for clothing and his wages. Two discharge certificates from the JENNIE HARKNESS, business cards from ship broker James Perkins of Boston, and a few pieces of ephemera were tucked into the back of the diary.
