Steamboat NORTH HAVEN

NORTH HAVEN was a steamboat that ran starting in 1931 between Rockland, Maine, and islands to the east, including North Haven, Vinalhaven, Stonington, Isle au Haut and Swans Island. She was built in 1913 at South Portland as the ELECTRONIC for the Cape Breton Electric Co. in Nova Scotia. In 1942 the Navy took her over for service between Portland and Casco Bay islands. She was replaced on the Rockland/islands route by a smaller diesel boat which ran year round. After World War II NORTH HAVEN's steam engine was replaced with a diesel and she joined the Circle Line fleet in New York City.
