Steamboat CATHERINE
CATHERINE was one of a fleet of steamboats owned by Capt. Oscar A. Crockett and his Rockland, Blue Hill, & Ellsworth Steamship Co. In this photo she is alongside a larger 3-masted schooner. CATHERINE was built in Bath, Maine, in 1893 and operated from Rockland until the early 1920s. She was owned in later years by Eastern Steam Ship Co. In 1924 she was sold to a Boston company and named NAHANT. In 1928 she went to Long Island, NY, and was named OAKLAND BEACH. Shortly after she sailed on the Hudson River as ONEIDA until she ended work in 1930. CATHERINE'S dimensions were 100.4 ft. length over all; 18 ft. beam; 8.1 ft. draft; and 161 gross tons.
