The 25' sloop POMELION seen here on a cradle was designed by Marjorie (Young) Burgess Wolff and built in 1940 at the Henry Nevins Shipyard, City island, New York For a time, Marjorie Young worked as secretary in her father's medical office, where she met Starling Burgess, one of his patients. When he offered her a job as secretary at his office in Bath, Maine, she started there in 1937 and was soon learning some of the simpler tasks of drafting. Burgess told friends he was ''designing a designer." When she completed a drawing for her own boat, the POMELION, she brought the design to Nevins's Boatyard in City Island, to be built.
