Young people rowing; 4 oars. "Old Town double end boat, 16 ft x 44 inches, 110 lbs. $320." The Old Town displacement hull design allowed it to slide along easily under low power. [ref: NF YB/1976, p. 98] Old Town double-ender Make no mistake about it; National Fishermen covered more than just large commercial fishing boats. In just about every issue you could find something for the small-boat guy - or gal - like a 1976 Yearbook story by Bob Whittier, "A Brief History of Power in Pleasure Boats." Whittier wrote that between 1910 and 1930 early outboard motors put "power boating within the reach of ordinary people." But as he shows with this photo of a 16-foot Old Town double-ender, plenty of opportunities still existed for those wanting to spend the afternoon rowing, as these kids are doing. The beauty of the Old Town displacement hull design allowed it to slide along easily under low power.
