Honey Greene demonstrates the training and gentleness of one of her Chinook dogs. Honey worked with her husband Perry to breed Chinooks in their kennel in Waldoboro. Chinooks are a rare breed of sled dog known for their intelligence and gentleness. In 1940 Perry Greene started a kennel in Waldoboro, and for a couple decades was the only breeder of Chinooks. In 2013 there were only 800 Chinooks registered worldwide. Kosti Ruohomaa took photos of Perry’s Chinook dogs. Kosti’s photos were published in Stag, and the July, 1949 edition of The American Legion Magazine, and also posthumously in Down East Magazine in January, 1963.
