A Chinook mother nurses a litter of puppies in Perry Greene's kennel on his thousand acre property in Waldoboro. Chinooks are a rare breed of sled dog known for their intelligence and gentleness. In 1940 Perry Greene started a kennel in Waldoboro, and for a couple decades was the only breeder of Chinooks. In 2013 there were only 800 Chinooks registered worldwide. Kosti Ruohomaa took photos of PerryÆs Chinook dogs. KostiÆs photos were published in Stag, and the July, 1949 edition of The American Legion Magazine, and also posthumously in Down East Magazine in January, 1963.
