One of the means by which the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) introduces technological "know-how" in fisheries in under developed countries of the world is to give fellowships to fisheries officers and other fishery personnel. Such men arre trained in specific fields of work in fisheries and carry back their knoiwledge to pass on to their colleagues in their own country. Recently a fisheries officer from State of Mardas, India, Mr. Davidson Thomas, was awarded an FAO fellowship to study various aspects of fisheries in the United States, Iceland, Denmark, Germany and Italy.. In Iceland, he studied navigation and engine maintenance and fishing for herring and cod, while in the United Staes of America he was concerned with fishing for menhaden and other species. In Germany and Denmark he studied manufacture of nets and materials and the operation of small fishing boats, while in Italy he was concerned with deep sea trawling and in particular, with night fishing with lights. In this part of his fellowship work he operated from the Italian fishing ports of Fiumicino, Anzic and Terracina." "Beach landing a 9 ton boat with a power winch in Lokken- 4 stages."
