The Eastrer Steamship Co. steamer MONHEGAN at Elmore Landing, Tenants Harbor, Maine The 128', 367 ton MONHEGAN was built at Cobb, Butler & Co. in Rockland, Maine, in 1903 to the specifications of Captain Isaac Edson Archibald. It was his largest steamboat, with a length of 128 feet and a breadth of 26.7 feet. Though the Monhegan was the flagship of his fleet, Archibald sold her in 1906, after which she passed through a number of owners. She capsized off Providence Rhode Island in 1938 The Monhegan brought both passengers and freight to Friendship year round on a regular basis until sea-borne vessels were eclipsed by the automotive business.
