Locomotive and railroad cars stopped at the Railroad Station at Brooks, Maine. A group of passengers is gathered on the platform, while a man in a white suit and boater hat walks down the platform toward the camera. According to a description of the town in "A Gazetteer of the State of Maine", written in 1886, "The Belfast and Burnham branch of the Maine Central Railroad passes through the town, having a station at Brooks village, a little north of the center of town...in 1880 its population was 877." Later that rail line was renamed the Belfast and Moosehead Railroad, which provided freight and passenger access between the Maine Central line at Burnham Junction, inland and the port of Belfast.
