Admiral Don O. Robbins in a donkey cart at the waterfront in Belfast, Maine Admiral Donald Ormond Robbins was referred to in several publications as "The Strangest Human Being on Earth." Although the title was probably somewhat exaggerated, the "Admiral"--one of his many nicknames--was different mostly because of his size. At the age of 55, he measured 45 inches in height and tipped the scales at 59 pounds. He is remembered by some as a candy salesman and odd jobber, but before the turn of the century, held several unusual positions and titles such as circus performer, hotel bouncer, law officer, pool shark, restaurateur, and band leader. We do not know the name of his noble donkey, but what a fitting beast for him! Male donkeys are called Jacks, and females, like this one, are called Jennys. Donkeys were originally bred and used as cart animals, but they are also known for being guardians to herds of various livestock.
