View of a horse-drawn carriage and a horse drawn wagon tied up on Main Street, Searsport, Maine. The pre-1892 fire version of the Searsport House Hotel (4-story building with the gambrel roof) can be seen at the far left. Originally built in 1831, the Searsport House was one of the best hotels to be found outside the larger cities It was occupied as a private dwelling initially but in 1835 it was converted into a hotel. By 1873 another story and a large, commodious stable and carriage house had been added. The hotel burned in 1892 and was rebuilt in 1894 with 30 guest rooms and enjoyed good patronage from the traveling public. It fell into disrepair and was razed in 1943. "304"
