S.S. ISLAND BELLE
Image of the steamboat ISLAND BELLE in Bath, Maine. Visible in image: ISLAND BELLE leaves her berth in Bath, apparently empty of passengers. A small portion of the Bath waterfront is visible astern, including the sterns of two other steamboats in their berths. Although One Man's World gives the year of this photograph as 1889, the Eastern Steamship Company was not incorporated until 1901. Resolution of this apparent discrepancy is unclear. Cataloger's note: This object is a copy negative of a print of a photograph by James E. Perkins. The original plate negative of this image is cataloged as LB2009.13.189. The identity of the copyist and the date at which the copy was made are not presently known.
