Roy and the horse
Image of Roy (last name not given) an a horse at rest in Montauk, New York. Visible in image: Roy wears a jacket, collared shirt, tie, and bowler hat, and holds the bridle of a horse as it drinks from a hewn trough. A hand pump and basin are set up next to the trough. The land around them is bare, studded with rocks and gently rolling. Roy and the horse are inside a space defined by a small building in the background at left, a circular fenced area with a post in its center, a rail fence that runs out of the photograph to the right, and a shed with a four-seat buggy parked alongside. A trio of chickens peck around behind Roy and his equine companion. Caption on negative sleeve/reverse of print: In pencil on original negative sleeve: "61--Roy + the horse--Montauk--July 91--Instan." No exact location for the photograph is specified, but it may be the Deep Hollow Ranch (so called since 1938) which has been an active cattle ranch since the 17th Century.
