Popham from Cox's Head

Image of Atkins Bay and the Popham seen from Cox's Head, Phippsburg, Maine. Visible in image: In the foreground, at the point of Cox's Head, stands the coaling station owned by the Morse Towboat Company. Some sort of covered raft is moored off Cox's Head. Downriver at left is Long Island, Georgetown, and then the mouth of the Kennebec, beyond which lie Pond Island and Seguin Island. Atkins Bay and Popham fill the center of the image. Prominent are the church, the Hotel Rockledge on the heights, and Fort Popham. Wood Island lies beyond the fort. Two of the Popham Beach Steamboat Company boats are moored in the bay in front of the church. The rightmost group of houses at Popham mark the site of the original Popham colony.
