James E. Perkins
Image of James E. Perkins taking his own picture in his house in Popham Village, Maine. Visible in image: James E. Perkins strikes an awkward pose at his desk, leaning back with legs splayed, one arm on his desk and one arm dangling over the chair back, staring in a direction somewhat above and to the left of the camera. He wears a suit with waistcoat and a necktie, and a pocket watch. His desk has several books stacked on top, and its pigeonholes are filled with papers. A maritime print hands on the door behind him, and a painting hangs over the desk. A filing cabinet, small bench, and piano are also visible in the room, which is wallpapered with a five-lobed leaf pattern. One may surmise that in order to make this photograph while leaving his hands free, Perkins squeezed the bulb of the shutter release with his foot.
