Fort Pemaquid
Image of visitors to Fort Pemaquid. Visible in image: Three women wearing blouses, skirts, and hats, and a man in a jacket with a bow tie and a boater hat pose in front of the Fort Pemaquid site. The rock, painted with the year 1607, is surrounded with an enclosure made to resemble a wood-and-stone stockade with a sign identifying it as the "Fort Rock of Pemaquid." Two other people sit atop the rock. An American flag flies over the rock and an old-fashioned wheelbarrow sits on the grass outside the enclosure. (The reconstruction of Fort William Henry, built 1908, occupies this same site today.)
