Boy on shipwreck
Image of Jacob Arthur Stevens on a shipwreck at Popham Beach, Maine. Visible in image: Jacob Arthur Stevens stands at the helm of a wrecked gaff-rigged sloop, home port Portland, Maine. The boat rests upright in the flats of the Kennebec River off Popham Village and its summer cottages, which line the shore in the background. The Life Saving Service station, not visible in this photograph, stands further up the beach. A line runs from the sloop's bow to the shore, but the hulk appears to be waterlogged and encumbered with algae below a discernible level, suggesting it might have sunk in place and sat for a while. Jacob Arthur Stevens was brother-in-law to James E. Perkins and went on to co-found the Goudy & Stevens Shipyard in East Boothbay, Maine.
