View of the bow of a new boat with ribbands installed to hold the steam-bent frames in place to accept the planking which has begun. The planking strakes are being attached by trunnels. The boatwrights are using C-clamps and pipe clamps to properly place the strakes. It appears that the strakes are shiplap. A ribband is a long narrow strip or bar used in shipbuilding; especially one bent and bolted longitudinally to the frames to hold them in position during construction. A trunnel, treenail or trennel, is a wooden peg, pin, or dowel used to fasten a boat's strakes to the boat frames. Locust is a favorite wood when making trunnels in shipbuilding due to its strength and rot resistance. Built by Morse Boatbuilding Planking hulls. Marguit Matts Norse Ketch # 2 and #3.
