The GOVERNOR MUSKIE at sea between Lincolnville Beach, Maine and Islesboro, Maine The GOVERNOR MUSKIE was built after the Maine State Ferry Service was established and took over from the Town of Islesboro, building a new pen and ramp system. The GOVERNOR MUSKIE was built by the Wiley Manufacturing Company, Port Deposit, MD. It could hold twenty-four vehicles, was 119.4 feet long, had a 40 foot beam, and had a 560 hp engine. The Governor Muskie began service to Islesboro in 1959 and was replaced by the MARGARET CHASE SMITH ferry in 1987.
