View at Lincolnville Beach, Maine with sunbathers and swimmers enjoying the beacdh and the ocean. The lobster Pound Restaurant and be seen at the left. The first Lobster Pound eatery on Lincolnville Beach dates back to the 1920s and was little more than a lean-to with a lobster cooker at the time. The Lobster Pound came into the McLaughlin family in 1956, when Barney and Ruth McLaughlin bought it from Inga Chase. In the 1970s, an addition increased the seating capacity from 60 to 120, and in 1973, siblings Richard and Lynn McLaughlin bought the corporation from their parents. Six years later, a flood that severely damaged the original gift shop at the back of the building prompted rebuilding and another addition, increasing seating capacity this time to 260. In 1980, a fire again destroyed the back of the building, and it was rebuilt to its present proportions. Before filing Chapter 7 bankruptcy in November 2016, Dick and Patty McLaughlin had owned and operated the Lobster Pound for 44 years.
