A stretch of sandy beach along Square Pond is punctuated by wooden piers extending into the water in the distance. No camps or cottages are visible along the tree-covered shoreline; since this time, development density has increased. Square Pond lies roughly 30 miles north of Kittery near the western Maine border. The shallow pond covers 877 acres and feeds into Mousam lake to the south. Numerous cabins and cottages cluster along its 10.8 mile shoreline; it's a popular vacation and fishing spot.
