St. Georges River, Warren, Maine A245

A view taken from a bridge looking down the Georges River in Warren. A couple mill type buildings and houses can be seen on either side of the river. Numerous docks can also be seen on both sides. "View of the St. George River looking downstream from Warren village dam. The building on the left was the Tiger Engine Co. building which stood on Riverside Drive. This building housed the “Tiger” engine which was used from 1876 until 1925. The new engine "Tiger" by name was purchased in Lynn, Massachusetts for $900 and arrived in Warren village on October 17, 1875. It was capable of throwing a stream of water 175 feet. In March 1876 equipment was purchased and the fire department was called Warren Tiger Engine Company. The small building on the right is the Alewife shed which is still used every spring by alewife fishermen." -- Karin Larson, Warren Historical Society 2022
