Image of the brick Georgian Revival Alpha Tau Omega fraternity house at the University of Maine, Orono, Maine, sited on an open slope landscaped with select mature evergreens and a circular drive. The symmetry and architectural details of the building project the quintessential image of an American college fraternity residence. By 1889 the fourth fraternity at the University SIU (Strength in Union) Society, was established and in 1891 it was absorbed by Beta Upsilon chapter of Alpha Tau Omega . The members occupied the Paul Webster house on No. Main St. in Orono from 1895 until 1931 when the building was destroyed by fire.
