This is a photograph of Balch Lake showing a raft with a diving board in the foreground with more rafts for swimming, boats and camps along the shore. Additional information on the sleave shows that this is Property 7 Moons [SP], Trading Post. East Wakefield N.H. Balch Lake was formed approximately 150 years ago when a dam was built on the Little Ossipee River in Newfield ME. The major inflow is controlled by Chick’s Dam on the northwestern corner of the lake. It is also fed by dozens of natural springs. Balch is approximately 4 miles long with more than 14 miles of shoreline, a maximum depth of 44 feet, and a total surface area of 704 acres. It has many peninsulas, coves, and islands. Balch is a border lake within three different towns in two states: Acton & Newfield, Maine and Wakefield, New Hampshire.
