Main St. Silver Springs, N.Y. 25.

View looking across the dirt Main Street of a small town in the summertime. The block in view has brick as well as more modest frame commercial buildings. A row of maple trees shades the cement sidewalk on the left, while awnings of various design protect the storefronts across the street. A few motor cars are parked by the curb. This image is part of a series made by one of the three Eastern Illustrating & Publishing Company photographers assigned to New England or upstate New York. The glass plates would be sent back to Belfast, Maine, and processed into postcards at the printing plant on High Street. The two-story brick block housing S. R. Marsh Hardware has a corner entrance approached on cement steps from the sidewalk. Advertisments posted on the outside walls tout mainly automotive products: Goodyear Cord Tires/ Goodyear Service Station/ Diamond Squeegee Tread Tires/ Havoline Oil, and Socony/ Motor Gasoline/ Standard Oil Co. NY. The next store over, J.A. Corbett, has an oversize druggist's mortar and pestle above the entrance. Signs advertise Drugs/ Books/ Stationery/ Soda/ Cigars/ Hoefler's Ice Cream Served Here. The Post Office is housed next door in a simple frame building with a porch. A bank occupies a brick building farther down the block.
